Driver Selection

The Company follows a strict selection process in the appointment of drivers, which includes certain minimum qualifications and experience, testing, as well as background checks with references and possible offence history. Upon selection, new drivers are accompanied by a Driver Trainer for the first few deliveries to ensure a solid grasp of loading and off-loading procedures.

Du Plessis Sand is also proud to be the only transport company in the country to have an in-house driver training facility which has been accredited by TETA. Young individuals are recruited from local communities and over a period of three years they receive strict, industry specific, theoretical and practical training up to a NQF Level 4. One of the benefits of having an in-house training facility is that drivers start their careers trained to uniformed standards and they are familiar with procedures that are unique to our line of business. The fact that the facility is accredited by TETA means that every trainee also receives an official diploma for each NQF Level which has been successfully completed.
